Fire and Rescue Operations

Responds to fires, rescues and hazardous materials incidents from 28 stations, maintains appliances and equipment in a state of readiness, crews every turnout with competent members, and manages every incident under the incident management system with a safety officer where required.

Receives emergency calls transferred from the national emergency call service, dispatches appliances and units through computer aided dispatch, controls radio networks, monitors automatic fire alarm systems and supports incident controllers with logistics and information around the clock.

Reduces fire and emergency risk before it happens through building fire safety inspections, dangerous goods facility inspections, assessment of building plans, permits and compliance during fire danger periods, community education and prescribed burn planning with land managers.

Leads regional emergency risk assessment and planning with councils and partner agencies, designs and evaluates exercises, prepares evacuation and relief centre arrangements, and coordinates recovery services for communities after major emergencies.
